About us

Why we built FetchTheFacts

Because the information people need before getting a dog is out there - it is just buried under marketing, cute photos, and websites trying to sell you something.

The problem with most dog breed information

Every major pet brand has a breed finder. The AKC has one. Purina has one. Royal Canin has one. They are all built by companies that want to sell you food, supplies, or puppies. They all describe every breed as family-friendly, trainable, and wonderful.

Nobody tells you that a French Bulldog might cost you $4,000 in vet bills in year one. Nobody tells you that a Rottweiler might get your homeowner's insurance cancelled. Nobody tells you that a Border Collie will destroy your house if you work a 9 to 5 job and do not have 2 hours a day to dedicate to exercise and mental stimulation.

We built FetchTheFacts because that information matters. A dog is a 10 to 15 year commitment. The wrong breed for your lifestyle is bad for you and bad for the dog.

What we do differently

1
We tell you about insurance risks. Several breeds can get your homeowner's or renter's insurance restricted or denied. We put that front and center because it matters.
2
We show real costs. Not just food and annual vet visits - Year 1 costs including purchase price, setup supplies, training, and the health issues that are common in each breed.
3
We use hard vetoes. If you want a protection dog, a Pomeranian will never appear in your results. If you live in a studio apartment, a Siberian Husky will never appear. Some mismatches are dealbreakers.
4
We respect every breed. We do not bash breeds. Every breed on our site is described honestly - including the breeds other sites only say positive things about. A Rottweiler is a loyal and loving dog AND an insurance risk. Both things are true.

Our data sources

Our breed information is sourced from the American Kennel Club breed standards, veterinary health databases, insurance industry data from the Insurance Information Institute, and peer-reviewed research on canine health and behavior.

We update our information regularly. If you see something that is outdated or inaccurate, we want to know.
